Advocacy is Key

As resources get tighter, new solutions need to be identified, and leaders need to be cultivated, effective advocacy work is more important than ever. The MHSC is committed to advocating for the needs of Montcalm County residents and organizations; moreover, the MHSC is interested in providing opportunities to enable other people to advocate for themselves.

The MHSC 2011 Advocacy Plan sets out to: 1) build and maintain working relationship with state and federal legislators and their staff, especially new legislators; 2) actively participate in the FY 2012 budget process; 3) maintain positive working relationship with Montcalm County Board of Commissioners; 4) impact capacity for community-driven advocacy.

Past MHSC advocacy activities include: co-sponsorship of community candidate forums, collecting candidate question responses, inviting candidates/elected officials/their representatives to meetings, conducting advocacy training, promoting community legislative events, communicating with elected officials, Michigan Kids Count Book release promotion, and co-sponsoring a voter engagement training.

Community Candidate Forums

In 2010, the MHSC partnered on two Candidate Forums. See the 2010 Election menu tab on the left side of this page for information about those events.
