Advocacy is Key

As resources get tighter, new solutions need to be identified, and leaders need to be cultivated, effective advocacy work is more important than ever. The MHSC is committed to advocating for the needs of Montcalm County residents and organizations. And as the MHSC continues  learning how to advocate more effectively, they are interested in providing opportunities to enable other people to better advocate for themselves. Past MHSC advocacy activities include: co-sponsorship of community candidate forums, getting responses to candidate questions, inviting candidates and elected officials/their representatives to our meetings, arranging  an advocacy training at an annual retreat, regularly communicating with elected officials, and co-sponsorshing a voter engagement training.

Check out the Defining Moment/Community Conversations Final Report from The Center of Michigan (released June 3, 2010).
