This information is for the "new economy" paradigm. This information is relevant to the MHSC for economic development purposes and its focus on community development/"placemaking" as well as other community groups  Below are some powerpoints, websites, and other resources that may facilitate additional learning. 
 
Intern In Michigan
The internship initiative is a statewide effort to train and retain young people in our state. In West Michigan, the West Michigan Strategic Alliance is looking to generate an additional 3,000 internships by the end of 2011. Michigan Prosperity Initiative "New Economy" Resources
 
1. New Economy: A website hosted by Land Policy Institute has information about the New Economy training series effort which concluded in June. Several persons from Montcalm County attended various sessions, including MHSC members/staff and Montcalm County Planning Commission members. All three training sessions' agendas and powerpoints are accessible as PDF files in the table below:

2. Creating a Local Strategic Growth Plan for the New Economy: Powerpoint Presentation on how to developing Strategic Growth Plans utililizing New Economy elements. Includes overview of New Economy principals,  strategic planning methods and examples, and suggested resources. Dated June 25, 2009 by MSUE.

 

3. Michigan's Critical Assets: The Land Policy Institute posted a really good Powerpoint Presentation entitled "Michigan's Critical Assets: Determining Where Your Region Fits Into a Global Economy." It also describes the "New Economy" paradigm and the Michigan Properity Initiative. It has interesting critical asset maps of detailed by township/County from a report that can be ordered through Michigan State University. By Wayne Beyea.
