Countywide Transportation
Although efforts around the transportation issue had started as early as 1998 with formal needs studies, the recommendations were essentially not moved forward. In 2006, the MHSC charged a committee to take up the issue of countywide transportation again- this committee came to be known as the Montcalm Countywide Transit Initiative. In December 2008, a countywide transportation system proposal (called The Montcalm Ride) was presented to the Montcalm County Board of Commissioners for their consideration. Over that next year, Montcalm Countywide Transit Initiative members made more than 40 presentations throughout the county to inform the public and get feedback to the proposal. On December 21, 2009 the Montcalm County Commissioners approved Articles of Incorporation for a Public Transportation Authority, thereby establishing Montcalm County's first Public Transportation Authority.
